Integrating multiscale physics, Fourier acoustics, and mathematical modeling to map acoustic fields.
Our laboratory develops fundamental wave propagation models to map acoustic fields and microbubble dynamics through complex, heterogeneous tissue. We derived a generalized solution for sound propagation based on the Angular Spectrum Approach (ASA), expanding Fourier acoustics theory to correct skull-induced phase and amplitude aberrations for trans-skull passive acoustic imaging and transmit focusing (IEEE TMI, 2019).

More recently, we introduced a physics-based, frequency-domain acoustic backpropagation framework that reconstructs microbubble oscillation dynamics, for both single microbubbles and microbubble ensembles, directly from passively recorded acoustic emissions using frequency decomposition (Results in Engineering, 2026), advancing noninvasive real-time monitoring of microbubble behavior in vivo.
